Rio Test Event Day 4

A long day with waiting and only one race, but a good day nonetheless!! We were again on one of the outside courses and it took a while for the wind to switch to the correct direction, so we spent an hour or so waiting on the water. The swell wasn’t nearly as big as it has been the past two days. We started the race in about 6 knots and soon picked up to 10 knots on the first windward beat. We had a great start at the pin and close after the start tacked and crossed most of the fleet. The wind was shifty and the entire fleet rounded the first windward mark in about 20 seconds, so the racing was extremely close. We led for the whole race and again our downwind speed proved a strength. The boys started a second race, but by the time we finished it was too late and the race committee had to send us in. The sun sets here at about 5:30 and with it being an hour tow to our race area, the timing didn’t quite match up for another race. The boys race ended up being abandoned as the breeze died.  We have three races scheduled for tomorrow on the Ponte course which is inside! Finally, we get to race in the bay!

We would like to thank the sponsors and supporters of the US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider especially our title sponsor Sperry Top-Sider.
