Hyeres Day 1

We had a lovely Easter yesterday with a short sail in the morning and getting everything all sorted for the start of the regatta. After we spent some time getting to know our coach, Dave Ullman we ventured into downtown Hyeres for an evening Easter mass. It was a lovely old stone church that was in the heart of the town.  The service was lovely, although most of it was in French and some Latin. It is definitely hard to be away from family while doing what we do, especially on such a family holiday like Easter. We are thankful for the good internet at our housing in that we were able to Skype home yesterday!

We woke up today very rested and ready for the racing to start. It feels like forever since we have not had a postponement. We arrived to the boat park with a building breeze and we launched on time and had a nice leisurely tow to the race area. We ended up racing in medium breeze and we even had some good rides downwind which were a blast. Again today our downwind speed was a big strength, as we were always trying to have a positive delta. We put together some good first beats after some mediocre starts and worked hard to accomplish the goals we set. We did our job today which was to get two top ten finishes and we will go out tomorrow in hopes to do the same. It is also a bonus that we get to wear the yellow pinnies tomorrow! We are also thinking of our friends running in the Boston Marathon today and are sad we are not in Boston to celebrate the strength of a wonderful city!!

We would like to thank the sponsors and supporters of the US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider especially our title sponsor Sperry Top-Sider.
