470 North Americans Day 1

It sure feels like it’s been a while since we have posted a blog following a race day. It definitely felt good to be back on the race course again.  Day 1 of the 470 North Americans started out with a short postponement as we waited for the breeze to fill in.  It has been unusually cold in Miami the past two days and with the cold front, we saw northwest breeze from 8-14 knots. This wind direction can be very unstable with unpredictable shifts and we saw just that.  Since we haven’t raced in a while, it was an important goal for us to get back into race mode. We were pleased with our day, especially given the challenging conditions. Our communication in the shifty and puffy conditions has shown improvements since the last time we saw these conditions in Santander, Spain this past September. We had three races today and got to sail against the boys which was awesome. We are learning more and more about the 470 every time we get in the boat and we are just taking it all in.  Similar conditions forecasted for tomorrow.

We would like to thank the sponsors and supporters of the US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider especially our title sponsor Sperry Top-Sider.
