Of course Day 1 of the Worlds was the most wind and waves we have seen in our three weeks here in La Rochelle, which made for awesome racing! Our walk down to the sailing center was a little bit wet due to some light showers in the morning. The women are racing in two fleets for the qualification series totaling five races, three of which we did today. Unfortunately, we did not sail that great, however even in these races where lots of things were going wrong, we were still able to keep working toward our goals. Although pretty tough to do today, this is extremely comforting for us and this mindset will definitely be important down the road. There were two breezes fighting each other today and with the windward beats being super long, it made the tactics very challenging. We saw a side swell upwind which we haven’t seen since our training in Miami. We made improvements throughout the day upwind in technique and especially with our approach and communication into the windward mark. Looks like more cloud cover for tomorrow with similar a wind condition, but we are switching race areas with the men!
