Today was moving day!! Although, we didn’t move as much as we would have liked, definitely a lot of improvements from yesterday. Exactly the same tactical situation as yesterday, but a little bit windier seeing around 15-18 knots. The first race, we started a little down from the boat with the game plan of getting on port as soon as possible. We had some boats on our hip which made that harder than we would have liked. We ended up tacking and ducking, however there were about 15 boats who were able to get on port sooner than us and we were fighting to come back from that position the whole race. The second race, we decided to fight for a boat end start realizing that we are fully capable of playing the game and being leaders on the starting line. We won the boat and tacked immediately with one boat below us. We sailed well toward the right side, but had some speed problems which made it tough to crack into the top five. Nevertheless, our start was a huge confidence booster for us in the future and there were a lot of speed takeaways from today. The regatta has been providing post racing pasta, which is absolutely delicious! The rest of the regatta is forecasted to be lighter. We are on a different format this event with no qualifying and final series. We will have ten races with one drop and a medal race with only the top eight boats.
We would like to thank the sponsors and supporters of the US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider especially our title sponsor Sperry Top-Sider.
