Trofeo SAR Princess Sofia Day 3

Coming off a frustrating first two days, we were super psyched to post a score line like we did today to move us into the top 10.  We made some significant improvements as a team today with our communication, starting strategy and approach, and our ability to keep the tactics simple.  In the first race, we started just up from the pin and locked into a good mode.  We had good speed against the fleet, rounding the top mark in second and we were able to finish the race in that position.  The second race, we had a similar starting strategy but wanted to hook into the right pressure coming down, so we shifted our starting plan to just down from the boat. Again, we had good speed off the line and we were leading the race at the top windward mark. The breeze lightened up during the first downwind and we lost some boats, but had a strong second upwind beat and final downwind beat to finish fourth.  Today’s finishes secure a qualifying score of 9, which we will take with us into the finals. We are able to discard this 9, so the regatta basically resets tomorrow with three races.

We would like to thank the sponsors and supporters of the US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider especially our title sponsor Sperry Top-Sider.
